Birmingham St Patrick’s parade is set for the 15th of March in Birmingham City Centre.

Ann, organiser of the event said:

We have secured funding from the council for this year and we have bands from Ireland already booked. We don’t know how many people to expect, it all depends on the whether is good or not.”

As part of their fundraising campaign, St Patrick’s Birmingham has organised an alternative event that will take place on the 20th of February at 7.00pm at the Irish Centre Birmingham in Digbeth.

Dozens of artists will be playing live music whilst spectators can enjoy a hot free buffet for an entrance fee of £10. The money will help the organisation to fund the St Patrick’s parade in March.

Following the City Council’s budget cuts of £72m, St Patrick’s Birmingham has suffered a massive blow and has been obliged to seek support from the public for its funding.

We have got other sources of funding and we are hosting events during the year so we are not too worried about funding right now.” Said Ann

Although the funding target for this year has been reached, and it is not an issue at the moment, the future of St Patrick’s parade in Birmingham might be compromised.

So far, the event has raised £604 for next year, which represents only 3 per cent of the £20,000 target.

You can give money to help fund the parade by clicking on the clover.
